I'm Starting a New Project
I’ve just started working on a new project. I haven’t posted much of my work here before, but you can find a couple of my older projects here: https://gamejolt.com/@Werkhand/games
This is a completely new experience for me because I’ve never made a horror game before. Well, maybe I tried once, but I dropped it the same day — that one was supposed to be more of a joke. This time, I actually want to make a horror game.
The visuals will follow this kind of retro style. I started working on this game inspired by FNAF 4. That game always impressed me with its visuals and the atmosphere it created. Looking closely at the FNAF minigames, I realized how minimalistic graphics can actually enhance the horror — the brain fills in the blanks. All you need is a solid framework. Plus, it speeds up development: I can sketch a sprite in seconds. The player sprite, for example, took me maybe half a minute. That said, for the jumpscares, I’m planning to use pre-rendered 3D animations... at least, that’s the plan. But I’m a complete newbie in 3D modeling, so I’ll have to learn from scratch. We’ll see how that goes.
This post is more of a trial — not really to hype the game (there’s not much to show yet), but to push myself to actually start working on it. Just a week ago I was developing something else entirely, but after a wave of FNAF nostalgia hit me, I felt like finally bringing to life a horror game idea I’ve had in my head for over a year. Maybe this time I won’t abandon it. Hopefully...
In the next post (if I make one), I’ll go into more detail about the concept and the current state of the project.
